Amul milk price hiked by Rs 2 per litre ahead of Diwali; third hike this year

For the second time in two months, Amul raised the cost of its Gold, Shakti, and Taaza milk brands by Rs 2 per litre in August. Previously, on March 1, 2022, milk prices were increased by Rs 2 per litre.

For the third time this year, Amul has raised the price of milk, which is a major setback for the common citizen. The price of full cream milk and buffalo milk has increased by Rs 2 per litre in all states other than Gujarat, according to RS Sodhi, the MD of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited, who made the announcement on Saturday.

As a result, full cream milk will now cost Rs. 63 as opposed to Rs. 61 per litre.

Two months ago, Amul upped the costs of its Gold, Shakti, and Taaza milk brands by Rs 2 per litre. Now, there has been another price increase. In March of last year, milk prices were increased. Amul raised its milk pricing by Rs 2 per litre on March 1st, 2022. Nevertheless, the corporation used the growing price of gasoline and diesel to defend the price hikes. According to Amul, the decision was made in response to rising operating costs and milk production.

In August, GCMMF increased milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in all markets where Amul distributes fresh milk, including Mumbai, West Bengal, Ahmedabad, and the national capital city of Delhi. The cost of a litre of milk from Amul’s Gold, Shakti, and Taaza brands has increased by Rs 2.

Retail inflation in India, meanwhile, increased to a five-month high of 7.41% in September from 7.1% the month prior and continued to be significantly above the RBI’s upper tolerance zone for the ninth straight month. Contrarily, wholesale pricing index-based (WPI) inflation decreased to 10.70% in September from 12.41% in August 2022 and 11.8% in September of the previous year.
