Cabinet announces productivity-linked bonus for Indian Railways employees

Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, stated that about 11.27 lakh non-gazetted Railway personnel will receive PLB payments equal to 78 days of salaries.

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has authorised a productivity-linked bonus for Indian Railways staff for the fiscal year 2021–2022.

It should be noted that PLB payments are issued annually prior to the Dussehra/puja holidays to eligible railway personnel.

Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, informed the media about the decision and stated that about 11.27 lakh non-gazetted Railway personnel will receive PLB payments equal to 78 days of salaries.

A maximum of Rs 17,951 can be paid to each eligible railway worker for 78 days.

Station masters, track maintainers, supervisors, technicians, drivers and guards, technician helpers, controllers, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and other Group “C” employees have all received the aforementioned sum.

The payment of 78 days’ worth of PLB to railway workers is anticipated to cost Rs. 1832.09 crore. The administration claims that the choice to pay out PLBs was made notwithstanding the unfavourable financial circumstances brought on by the post-Covid-19 environment.

The number of PLB days paid exceeds the number of days calculated using established procedures. The PLB reward encourages railroad workers to work on raising the performance of the railways.
