On October 12, Microsoft will formally introduce its newest lineup of Surface laptops, which is believed to feature the Surface Pro 9 and Surface Laptop 5.
According to the corporation, there would be a “discussion regarding gadgets” at the “Microsoft Fall 2022 Event.”
Since the epidemic, Microsoft has not held an in-person Surface event; this time, it appears to be an online event alone.
Microsoft might also reveal updated models of some of the other Surface-branded items it sells, like the Surface Studio, and related peripherals like the Surface Headphones and Surface Buds.
It has been a year since Microsoft announced the Surface Duo 2, but in recent months, we haven’t heard anything about a third iteration of the foldable.
About the Surface Pro 9
Rumors suggest that the Surface Pro 9 will let users choose between Arm and Intel processors, which also indicates the Surface Pro X series is probably doomed to failure. The 12-generation Intel Core i7 processor or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 platform with an Arm architecture are expected to power the 2-in-1 Surface 9 Pro. This time, it might include support for 5G. The latter will support cellular connectivity. Winfuture claims that the Surface Pro 9 may feature a different design from its predecessor and one that may be reminiscent of the Surface Pro X range.
Microsoft still has a lot of work to do to improve the Windows user experience on hardware with ARM-based processors. The corporation is incredibly reliant on Qualcomm, the manufacturer of mobile chips that introduced ARM processors to PCs. The degree of experience you receive on a Mac is far superior to that of Microsoft and Qualcomm. Inside its Mac computers, Apple uses unique M-series ARM-based CPUs. Both consumers and critics have given Apple’s M-series chips high marks.
According to the German portal WinFuture, the Surface Pro 9 may start at 1,300 euros in its base configuration (Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD), and the Surface Laptop 5 with a 13.5-inch display may cost at least 1,200 euros. Prices for the larger 15-inch model may begin at 1,500 euros.
The newest Intel processors from the “Alder Lake” series are planned for the Surface Pro9.
The Intel Core i7-1255U, which provides an equal number of “P” and “E” cores, is the processor found in the top-tier Surface Pro 9 versions.
About the Surface Pro 5
The Surface Laptop 5 might be the other significant item scheduled for release at the October 12 event. Winfuture claims that, unlike the Surface Laptop 4, which offers both Intel and AMD alternatives, it has not been able to locate any proof that the upcoming laptop would have an AMD version. However, the fact that Panos Panay, the head of Surface hardware, just shared a selfie with Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, may be a strong indication that a Surface Laptop 5 with an AMD processor is in the works. In this instance, the newest AMD Ryzen 6000 series processor, which was introduced at CES 2022, will be used in the future SKU of the Surface Laptop 5.
Tech events lined up
The month of October will be jam-packed with tech events. On September 28, Amazon will host a product event that is invitation-only. On October 5, Google will introduce its new Pixel 7 line and other products. On October 11, the Meta Connect metaverse event will take place. A Mac and iPad-focused event from Apple is also reportedly scheduled for next month.
Hence, it’s going to be one heck of a period for new tech launches and events.
