Apple need a “concrete reason” to remove betting apps from its store.

Apple is rumoured to have informed Indian government officials that in order to remove betting apps, the company requires a “concrete reason or a legal requirement.” According to a source, this is something that Apple requires in order to fully comply with the demand from the Centre to remove betting apps from its App Store.

According to reports from the media, Apple has claimed that it must be provided with a “concrete reason or a legal requirement” before it will comply with the mandate issued by the Centre to remove betting apps from its App Store. Apple has not refused to comply with the directive that was issued in February by the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY), but the company has made it abundantly clear that it cannot ‘arbitrarily’ delete the betting apps and make them unavailable in India.

The company stated that it would be difficult to get rid of the betting applications in India because they are legal and permitted in other nations, making it difficult to do so in India. Apple has been given the mission to research the many ways in which the instruction can be implemented.

Apple officials and representatives from the Indian government’s IT department got together in March, not long after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) published a list of 138 gambling and betting applications that were not permitted to function in India.

According to claims in the media, the company that manufactures the iPhone is currently in the process of “vetting” the apps to ensure that only “wrong or bad players” of the ecosystem are removed. Apple has temporarily withdrawn a few of the apps that the ministry of information technology decided to ban back in February, while it continues to work on the “best possible solution” for other apps.

At the beginning of April, the Centre made an announcement regarding the introduction of new gaming regulations by modifying the IT Rules. This was done with the intention of protecting online gamers from harmful content, addiction, and prohibited activities that involve wagering or betting with real money.

After this, representatives from various government agencies once again urged that Apple ensure that its App Store did not contain any applications that facilitated betting or gambling of any kind.
