Andor: The Star Wars Show

With an unsurprising second season, Andor: The Star Wars show will expand its 12-episode first season to 24 episodes. Showrunner Tony Gilroy announced on May 26 that the series will return in November for a season 2.  Onstage on Thursday, Gilmore assured fans, “We’re going to rewind 5 years back  from Rogue One.” “We’ve already shot 12 episodes!”

Luna reprises his Rogue One character, Cassian Andor, in the new series, which digs into the character’s past. The series opens with the destruction of Andor’s homeworld during the height of the Empire. Luna has described Andor as “the journey of a migrant…That feeling of having to move is behind this story…That shapes you as a person. It defines you in many ways, and what you are willing to do.”

The news about Andor was revealed at a Lucasfilm panel at this year’s Star Wars Celebration on Thursday. The fan-friendly event began with Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregror taking the stage to discuss the latest Disney+ Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, which premieres on May 26, on the streaming platform. Fans in Anaheim will be able to see the first two episodes, before their Disney release. “We started to feel all your love for the prequels that we made,” McGregor said to the full house.

The “Andor” series will take a fresh look at the Star Wars universe, focused on Cassian Andor’s attempt to discover how he might make a difference. The series tells the story of the Empire’s burgeoning revolt and how people and planets became involved.
