How will the coronation be conducted?

On Saturday, May 6, the coronation of the King is scheduled to occur. Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will preside over the service, as has been customary since 1066.

74-year-old Charles will be anointed with sacred oil during the ceremony, codenamed “Operation Golden Orb.”The Archbishop will then bless His Majesty as he is presented with the orb, coronation ring, and sceptre. As previous monarchs have done, the King is expected to occupy the Coronation Chair, also known as King Edward’s Chair. The extraordinary piece of furniture was commissioned by Edward I in the 14th century to house the renowned Stone of Scone.
