IAF C-130J aircraft evacuate 250 Indians from war-ravaged Sudan as part of Operation Kaveri.

The INS Sumedha left Port Sudan for Jeddah with 278 passengers on board. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar announced on Monday that India has initiated Operation Kaveri to rescue its citizens trapped in war-ravaged Sudan.

Wednesday, April 26th, the Indian Air Force reported that two C-130 J aircraft evacuated over 250 personnel from Port Sudan. The third group of 135 Indians was evacuated from Port Sudan and arrived early Wednesday morning in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah.

V Muraleedharan, minister of state for external affairs, stated in a tweet that the Indian government will shortly facilitate the return of these citizens. An additional IAF aircraft carrying 148 Indian citizens landed in Jeddah this morning.

The Indian government has implemented Operation Kaveri to extract stranded citizens from Sudan, which has been experiencing severe violence due to clashes between government forces and rebel RAF.

“The IAF C-130J aircraft carrying 135 Indians from Port Sudan arrived in Jeddah. Everyone who arrived in Jeddah will soon begin their voyage to India,” V Muraleedharan tweeted.

On another batch that landed in Jeddah, the minister tweeted, “First IAF C-130J aircraft transporting 148 Indians under #OperationKaveri from Port Sudan landed in Jeddah. Happy to see the Indians’ happiness.”

The first group of Indians stranded in Sudan was evacuated on Tuesday as part of Operation Kaveri. The INS Sumedha left Port Sudan for Jeddah with 278 passengers on board. The IAF and the INS have so far evacuated 528 Indian nationals from Sudan.

As a result of a power struggle between two major factions of the country’s military regime, violence erupted in Sudan, resulting in the deaths of more than 250 people and the injuries of approximately 2,600 others in Khartoum and other cities.
