Saudi Arabia evacuates Indians fleeing Sudan’s conflict to the UAE.

On April 19, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with his Saudi and UAE counterparts about the situation.

Saudi Arabia announced on Saturday that Indians and other nationalities were evacuated in safety from Sudan to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said, “In accordance with the directives of the Kingdom’s Leadership, we are pleased to announce the safe arrival of the citizens of the Kingdom who were evacuated from the Republic of Sudan, as well as several nationals of brotherly and friendly countries, including diplomats and international officials, who arrived in an evacuation operation carried out by the Royal Saudi Naval Forces with the assistance of the United Nations.”

“The number of citizens evacuated reached 91, while the number of people evacuated from brotherly and friendly countries reached about 66, with the following nationalities represented: Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia, Pakistan, India, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Canada, and Burkina Faso. “The Kingdom worked to meet the needs of foreign nationals in preparation for their return home,” the statement continued.

On April 19, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with his Saudi and UAE counterparts about the situation. In the interim, India continues to closely monitor the situation in Sudan, especially in light of its concerns for Indians living in the African nation.

In Sudan, the army and a paramilitary group have been engaged in a deadly conflict for the past six days, reportedly resulting in the deaths of approximately 100 individuals. Since a coup d’état in October 2021, the Sudanese military has ruled the country through a sovereign council.
