Elon Musk responded to Jack Dorsey’s assertion that Twitter does not have an option but to shut down by saying, “We will be shut down.”

In response to a question about Jack Dorsey’s recent interview, in which he mentioned Twitter’s compliance with the Indian government’s requests to lock several accounts, Twitter Chairman Elon Musk emphasised the need to comply with local government laws and acknowledged that failure to do so could result in consequences for the company’s employees. Dorsey had mentioned that Twitter had locked several accounts in response to requests from the Indian government.

Elon Musk

Elon Musk, the current CEO of Twitter, was asked by members of the media about his reaction to the statements made by former CEO Jack Dorsey about the social media company being threatened by the government of Narendra Modi. Musk responded by saying that Twitter would be shut down and its employees would be arrested. Following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the New York Palace Hotel in New York City, during which the two men engaged in an in-depth discussion on the topic of sustainable energy generation and investment potential, Elon Musk expressed his opinions.

Musk has been quoted as saying, “Twitter does not have any other choice but to obey local governments.” We risk having our business closed if we do not comply with the laws of the local authorities. Therefore, the best that we can hope for is to conduct our business in a manner that is compliant with the laws of each nation. We are unable to do much more than that because if we do, we will be prevented from moving further and our people will be detained. We cannot simply adapt America to the rest of the world.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Twitter stated that it is hard for “us to do more than that,” and then went on to say that “There are different rules and regulations for different forms of governments.” We will make every effort to provide the greatest amount of speech freedom that is permitted by the law.

After not following with the Modi government’s orders to block particular accounts during the height of the 2020-21 farmers’ protests, Dorsey said that the social media platform received threats to shut it down. He made this claim on Twitter. In an interview that was published on a YouTube channel, Jack Dorsey made the following assertion: “It manifested in ways such as ‘We will shut Twitter down in India,’ which is a very large market for us; ‘We will raid the homes of your employees,’ which they did; and this is India, a democratic country.”

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar called the allegations a blatant lie and criticised Dorsey for attempting to brush away that very dubious time of Twitter’s history. Dorsey has attempted to brush out that very dubious period of Twitter’s history.

“Twitter under Dorsey and his team were in repeated and continuous violations of India law,” claimed the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Technology. In point of fact, they were in violation of the law on multiple occasions between the years 2020 and 2022, and it wasn’t until June of 2022 that they were finally in compliance.

“No one was arrested, and there was no’shutdown’ of Twitter,” she said. The Dorsey administration at Twitter struggled to acknowledge the preeminence of Indian legal precedent. It carried on as if the legal system of India did not pertain to it at all. He continued by saying that India, as a sovereign nation, possesses the authority to guarantee that its laws are adhered to by all businesses that operate inside its borders.
