Pro-Khalistanis in Canada used a parade float depicting the killing of Indira Gandhi, which caused outrage on social media.

It is thought that the video was taken on June 4, just a few days before the 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star, in which insurgent Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and other militants were murdered by the Indian Army in an operation carried out near the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar.

Pro-Khalistanis in Canada

It would appear that pro-Khalistan elements are operating with complete freedom in Canada. In the most recent incident of provocative behaviour, a video has surfaced that shows a float that depicts the assassination of the late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards being part of a parade that is around 5 km long in the city of Brampton in the country of Canada.

It is thought that the video was taken on June 4, just a few days before the 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star, in which insurgent Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and other militants were murdered by the Indian Army in an operation carried out near the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar.

On the orders of the Prime Minister of India at the time, Indira Gandhi, the Army attacked the Sikh shrine. And despite the fact that the operation was successful in removing the militants from the shrine, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984, at her official residence in New Delhi. The incident occurred several months after the operation.

In this regard, it is important to remember that India has, on multiple occasions, voiced concerns regarding the unchecked actions of pro-Khalistani elements in Canada. The Indian government’s External Affairs Ministry called the Indian high commissioner in Canada in March to lodge a protest against ‘the acts of separatist and extremist forces’ against India’s diplomatic mission and consulates in Canada. This came about as a result of an upsurge in the number of demonstrations that took place outside of Indian diplomatic missions at the same time that the Punjab police initiated a manhunt across the whole state for the pro-Khalistani separatist preacher Amritpal Singh. After a month-long manhunt, the leader of the Waris Punjab De terrorist organisation was apprehended.

The most recent video has elicited strong responses from users of social media, many of whom have expressed astonishment at the brazenness with which pro-Khalistani individuals are operating on foreign soil.

According to the comments of one user, India need to censure Canada for the open show it has made defending terrorist and terrorist crimes. Khalistanis who are based in Canada are the Sikh community’s worst possible ambassadors. I hope that many in the greater Sikh community are aware of this. There is no possible justification for the assassination of Indira Gandhi, who served as Prime Minister during that time.
