During a game in which the Delhi Capitals will be wearing a different colour jersey than usual, Rishabh Pant’s number will be permanently inscribed on each player’s jersey as a way to honour him.
Injured Regular Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant is expected to be in attendance in Tuesday’s home opener against the Gujarat Titans at Feroz Shah Kotla. If the team can get clearance from the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, he may even get to watch from the dugout (ACSU).
“Rishabh has been a vital component of Delhi Capitals since day one. There is a good chance that he will be at Tuesday’s home opener versus GT. He will undoubtedly be in the owner’s box, but he may spend some time in the dugout as well if ACSU gives him permission to do so “Under anonymity, an IPL source familiar with the situation within the Caps’ camp revealed the news to PTI.
Pant was involved in a terrible vehicle accident in December, which has kept him out of cricket for a long time. His right knee required surgery, and he has only recently begun walking and other forms of therapy.
DC’s shirt gesture during the first game had BCCI “not very happy.”
The DC club “always had him with them in spirit” by hanging their skipper’s jersey No. 17 from the dugout roof before their first game against the Lucknow Super Giants. A source from the IPL told PTI that the BCCI had made it known that they thought the gesture was “bit over the top” and “uncalled for” on some level.
“That felt a little excessive. This sort of thing is only done in the event of death or retirement. Neither applies here. Rishabh is making remarkable progress towards rehabilitation. But while the aim was good, the BCCI has apparently asked the franchise to refrain from doing anything similar in the future “as our IPL source put it.
Pant’s jersey was prominently displayed from the dugout, an idea credited to head coach Ricky Ponting.
Pant’s No. 17 jersey will be featured on all uniforms for a single game.
To show their appreciation, the Delhi Capitals will wear alternate jerseys in one of their games and inscribe Pant’s number on each player’s jersey. The players’ individual jersey numbers will not be compromised, though, because the numbers will be embroidered in one corner of the jerseys.
“For one game each season, DC sports a new jersey. Pant’s number will be inscribed on every player’s jersey for that match. The emblem, which will be a tiny inscription in the corner, must adhere to certain guidelines, but “source claims.
