It has been a rough road for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the inaugural 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL), the premier Twenty20 (T20) competition. It remains winless after five matches, and its job to qualify for the Eliminator has gotten increasingly difficult with only three contests remaining.

On Monday at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium in Navi Mumbai, RCB was asked to bat first and managed a par total of 150/4, with Ellyse Perry’s unbeaten 67 being the highest score. The chase was a nail-biter, with Delhi Capitals (DC) achieving the goal with a few deliveries to spare and prevailing by six wickets.

Megan Schutt is disheartened by RCB’s failures to yet and believes the team has a long way to go despite having improved with each match. “Yes, it does hurt. I will not tell a falsehood. Today, we shown a great deal of aggression, which we had not done in prior encounters. Honestly, the change of location was welcome, but there were not enough runs scored today. Many large overs altered the game slightly “she said post-failure.

“It was a huge gamble to lose. Even during my warm-up overs prior to the game, I could sense that the wicket was little sticky. It was a difficult situation to begin with. Kappy is a world-class bowler, as are several of his teammates. You must also provide credit for that. They bowled excellent lines. There, cutters were anchored in the wicket. I believe the purpose was present. Sadly, we hit too many balls to fielders and played too many dots “said Schutt.

“It has, in a sense, been a collaborative effort. We have conceded too many runs while bowling and fielding, and we are likely not scoring enough runs. It cannot be attributed to an individual’s performance. Richa [Ghosh] was in need of runs, and today she batted as I have seen her bat so many times for India, but once again, this is short-form cricket. It is unstable. You cannot consistently perform at a high level. This is not the fault of a single individual, but I believe we need to improve by 10 to 15 percent as a team “Schutt summed up.
