1. Canada’s Banff Springs Hotel
The Banff Springs Hotel in Canada is perhaps the habitat of a plethora of ghost stories and unexplained happenings, with overtures of Stephen King’s novel ‘Timberline Lodge’ and Stanley Kubrick’s feature film, ‘The Shining’ fame.
Locals tell stories about an entire family being brutally killed in room 873. People have reported reappearing doormen who then disappeared out of nowhere.
However, if you believe you can handle the supernatural reputation, you’re in for a special treat here.
The elegant hotel exudes Scottish Baronial style, is surrounded by the fir-clad peaks of the Canadian Rockies, and gives access to the legendary ski fields of Jasper and Banff.

Poland’s Crooked Forest
For years, a small cluster of just over 400 pine trees has piqued the interest of Atlas Obscura sorts and off-the-beaten-path travellers, just south of the city of Szczecin in Poland’s extreme eastern haunch, a stone’s throw, west of the border with Germany.
The entire forest seems to be bent in almost ninety degrees at the trunk, before curving straight back once more and rising upwards into the Slavic sky.
The cause of the unusual wood’s appearance has been debated, with theories ranging from thundery snowstorms to lumberjack growing methods.
This is definitely a weird one.
Mexico’s Dolls’ Island
This island near Mexico City has a number of dolls hanging from the branches of a tree. This scene is like something out of a horror film and has drawn tourists from all over the world. According to legend, a young woman drowned on this island, and the owner thereafter positioned the dolls to keep her away. The owner died in the very same manner as this girl.
Now that is a mystery to think about it!
Area 51, Nevada
For decades, conspiracy theorists and Hollywood alike have been fascinated by the Air Force facility known as Area 51, which is located on the Nevada Test and Training Range, a US military base. The top-secret military base (that’s still active) is encircled by desert wasteland, and the mystery surrounding the Cold War-era stealth aircraft testing gave rise to rumours of UFO’s & aliens, wild government experiments and even a crafted moon landing on the site.
Curious civilians are welcome to visit the place around the base, which has become a weird tourist spot, but they are not permitted to enter.
The Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle is one of the world’s most infamous and mysterious locations. This 500,000-square-mile region is located in the Atlantic Ocean among Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Miami, Florida. Over 20 planes & 50 ships are said to have strangely disappeared or collapsed with no explanation.
Even though ships pass through the area with ease every day and that there aren’t any disappearances inside the Bermuda Triangle than just about any large, well-travelled zone of the ocean, the mysterious accidents have got much attention.
