Dr. Vandana Das of Kerala is scheduled to be cremated today at 11 a.m.; hundreds are expected to attend.

In a horrifying turn of events, a physician named Dr. Vandana Das was fatally stabbed by a schoolteacher named Sandeep while she was tending to his wound early this morning. The accused man attacked the doctor, who was 23 years old, six times.

Officials at the hospital claim that Sandeep was responsible for stabbing the physician six times in the back. According to the medical staff at the private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where she was treated for her injuries, she suffered stab wounds to both her back and her abdomen. This ended up being lethal since it caused massive internal injuries that spread throughout the body. After Sandeep got into a confrontation with several of his neighbours, the authorities decided to detain him as a result of the altercation. On Wednesday, the High Court of Kerala issued a scathing judgement against the state government and the police for their “failure” to protect medical professionals working within the state.
